Being Fenced In Is Being Free

If you want to really be free, then first you need to have a clear understanding of where your fences are.

I heard an analogy from a friend of mine recently in which she said (my paraphrase) to imagine two families.

The first family has no fence around their backyard, and the parents tell their children to stay close to the house. The kids won’t go far, they won’t ever take full advantage of the property that their parents own.

The second family has a fenced-in yard and their parents tell them they can play anywhere within the fences.

Which set of kids feel freer? More comfortable? Which are more likely to take full advantage of what they have? Which would feel safer?

Our boundaries give us freedom, not constraints.
