What does success mean to you?
Success is different for everyone. Some people want a big house and a nice car, some people want to grow their own business, some people want to have a lot of friendships, some people want to make a difference in the world.
Everyone wants different things, both in their business and in their personal lives.
If everyone is looking at success differently and wants different things for both themselves and their businesses then why are you comparing yourself and your business to them? Why do you consider them your competitors? You’re after different things!
My parents own no property (and likely never will), have little-to-no retirement and don’t have anything to leave me as an inheritance. They think themselves wildly successful (I do too, by the way). They’ve given their lives to serving others and, among other things, run a home for kids with HIV/AIDS (https://www.homeoftheopenheart.org/). They’re successful because of the lives they change, for the children that they rescued from poverty, and the difference they have made.
No one else can tell them that they aren’t successful, they can just say ‘You aren’t successful according to what I deem as success.’
Why should we care about what others think is successful?
We really shouldn’t. We all know that comparison is the thief of joy, so stop comparing your definition of success to what others think it is.
